Artist's Statement

I have incorporated elements of collage into my paintings for many years, but the dimensional collage boxes represent a new direction for my work. The immediacy of the collage process and the juxtaposition of imagery gives me a freedom of expression that I don't find in other mediums,and the aspect of adding dimension presents its own set of challenges. My pieces tend to be narrative and draw on art history as well as contemporary culture, found objects, and remnants of our technological age. There is a voyeuristic element in looking into the contained world within the box, and sometimes the figures within are looking back out.
